Artist expression of interest
Luminance Art Gallery acknowledges the traditional custodians of Birpai country and we pay our respects to elders past and present.
We support Mid North Coast artists by providing additional opportunities to exhibit new work. Our interests are broad, our ethos is local.
We host the annual Luminance Young Artists Exhibition & Art Prize with support from local businesses.
We also host solo and group shows throughout the year.
The Luminance Art Gallery director is Port Macquarie resident, Dr Dominic O’Grady.
Dominic‘s passion is art, story-telling and community-building.
Luminance Art Gallery is a member of Greater Port Macquarie Tourism Association, Regional Arts NSW, and Business Port Macquarie.
Our location
Luminance Art Gallery is in the heart of Port Macquarie’s shopping, dining and arts precinct. You’ll find us in the Garrison Building, 2/26 Clarence Street Port Macquarie, at the entrance to Gowings Port Central.
The Port Macquarie Museum is around the corner; the historic courthouse is across the road. Next door and nearby are some of Port Macquarie’s best bars, cafes and restaurants.
Luminance Art Gallery shares a pedestrian forecourt with Glasshouse Port Macquarie, which means the Glasshouse Regional Art Gallery is but a breath away.
The space
Luminance Art Gallery comfortably accommodates 14 or more artworks at a time. The gallery has 53sqm of space. Capacity is significantly increased if pieces are double hung.
We installed a new hanging system and new downlights in March 2025; every artwork exhibited in Luminance is lit like a jewel.
Luminance Art Gallery has a 4-metre front window onto the Glasshouse forecourt, providing great exposure and high volume foot traffic.
Share the cost
Artists interested in exhibiting at Luminance Art Gallery are encouraged to share the cost with up to six co-exhibitors. This broadens your reach and shares the rent. Artists who prefer a solo exhibition are equally welcome.
Luminance Gallery does not charge commission with this arrangement. All sales are commission-free.
Six-artist group show: $250 per artist, per week
Five-artist group show: $300 per artist, per week
Four-artist group show: $375 per artist, per week
Participating artists may choose to self-fund their exhibition, knowing when they sell their artwork, there’s no commission to pay.
Alternatively, financial support can be sourced through state and federal arts organisations, private foundations, business and individuals.
For example, visit Create NSW and Creative Australia. Look at the funding opportunities highlighted by Arts Mid North Coast and Regional Arts Australia.
How are costs calculated?
The flat rate is determined by the cost of commercial rent in Port Macquarie’s CBD.
The exhibition fee includes electricity, public liability insurance, promotional flyers, and marketing.
Each exhibition has an opening night launch, with refreshments served free of charge, RSA-certified person in attendance.
Luminance Gallery director Dr Dominic O’Grady is on-site three days each week, five days during school holidays.
Dominic O’Grady is on-call for viewings by appointment. Exhibiting artists are welcome to further extend their reach by staffing the gallery on additional days.
The gallery offers framing and installation services in partnership with Sunset Framing and Gallery.
Luminance Art Gallery also handles sales and deliveries on your behalf.
