Tony Williams

Tony Williams paints what he calls “abstract landscape”, and enjoys painting what he terms his experience of the landscape, not necessarily reproducing the landscape but his interpretation of it

“My work is a distillation of my impressions of the stunning Australian landscape, its endless variety and stark beauty, its spiritual power and presence. I love the amazing geographical formations of our land, the vibrancy of the colours, the shape of the land, the spiritual presence of its ancient landscapes”.

“I like to paint what comes as I apply paint to canvas; to see where it takes me. I like to leave the interpretation of my painting to what the viewer sees and experiences when viewing my work”.

Tony has been painting in oils and acrylics since 2003. Prior to that he was a practicing studio potter. From 1975 he worked in his own studio in the Inner West of Sydney and in the Blue Mountains. He worked with the renowned potter Peter Rushforth at his studio in Blackheath NSW. He has ceramic pieces in collections in Australia, Great Britain and Canada.

In 2003, Tony rented a studio space at the Lennox Street Artist Studios at Newtown. He has exhibited in solo and group exhibitions  in Australia and in 2013 in London at Menier Chocolate Factory Gallery, Southwark, with a ‘Group of 8’ artists from Lennox Street Studios.

After many years living in the Inner West of Sydney and the Blue Mountains, and travel overseas, Tony now lives and works at Port Macquarie on the NSW Mid North Coast.
